Project OverviewThe Civil Justice Centre on Gartside Street will be Manchester's most important and striking new building, headquarters of the Department for Constitutional Affairs in the North West, consolidating their office and court functions in the region. Designed by award winning Australian practice, Denton Corker Marshall, and international engineering design consultants Connell Mott MacDonald, the building is orientated on a North-South axis, its slender rectangular plan rising to 15 storeys, with distinctive glass fingers at the end elevations. The building will provide net accommodation of around 27,870 sq m (300,000 sq ft), consisting of 43 courtrooms (technical, family, county, civic and high), four tribunal courts and 75 consulting rooms, together with additional office and support space. |

Special RequirementsThe chilled water plant room is located in the basement with a static height of 85m. Maximum working pressures 11 bar. A Transfero spill system was selected due to the high static pressure. The expansion vessels are pressureless and therfore have 100% acceptance. The vessel is fitted with a special flushing arrangement to combat bacterial growth. The heating plantroom is located on the roof. A combined spill system with integral vacuum degassing and water make up was selected to minimise final pressure. The closed spill system with integral degassing offers the smallest possible foot print. |
